Westcool WA had moved into a new fleet and needed to move on the old one. Four vehicles, all still working, all no longer needed.
Selling them individually would have meant four separate advertisements, four rounds of enquiries, four sets of test drives to organise around a working week, four negotiations and four transfer forms. For a busy building and service company, that is not a small administrative task. It is staff time that produces nothing.
They wanted the whole group gone in one transaction. Abdul attended their Wangara premises, inspected all four vehicles in a single visit, completed the purchase the same day and arranged payment by bank transfer.
The Seller’s Situation
The problem here was not the vehicles. It was the multiplication.
Any one of these four could have been sold privately without much difficulty. They were practical, registered, running commercial vehicles with genuine demand behind them. But four private sales is not four times the work of one. It is worse, because each sale runs on its own timeline and the last one tends to drag.
Westcool wanted a clean result without:
- Advertising four vehicles separately
- Replying to enquiries on four listings
- Organising test drives around a working week
- Negotiating four individual deals
- Completing four separate sets of transfer paperwork
We went to them in Wangara and viewed the full fleet at once. That single decision is what made the difference: the vehicles were inspected, valued and handled as one job rather than four, and the whole thing was settled on the day.
For businesses in the same position, our how it works page explains the process, and it scales to a fleet as readily as to a single car.
Initial Fleet Assessment
These were former fleet vehicles, so normal work-related wear was expected. Showroom presentation was not the test. The question on each one was whether it had useful commercial value, sound mechanical fundamentals and clear resale potential after proper preparation.
- All four vehicles were inspected at Westcool’s Wangara premises in one visit
- Each took approximately 30 minutes to inspect and complete paperwork for
- Westcool accepted the deal the same day, making it a clean business-to-business purchase
- No finance payout was required, so the transaction was simple to finalise
- The Ford Ranger was the only vehicle showing a warning light, and it was a minor issue repaired after purchase
- The Ranger had no service books supplied; the Transit Custom, Berlingo and Trafic all had service history available
- Body wear, chips, dents, load-area dirt and general work-use marks were expected across the group
The fleet was a good purchase precisely because it was practical commercial stock. Buyers in this market prioritise reliability, registration, payload space, diesel economy and value. Perfect cosmetics matter far less to a tradesperson buying a work van than they do to a private buyer choosing a family car.
Vehicle by Vehicle
Each vehicle was assessed separately so the preparation plan matched its condition, age, kilometres and likely buyer.
2016 Ford Ranger XL 2.2 Hi-Rider 4×2 Crew Cab
Stock 5296, rego 1GGK106, 198,054 km, 2.2L turbo diesel, 6-speed manual, no service books supplied, registered until 30 August 2026.
A crew cab ute with strong commercial appeal and a useful Hi-Rider work setup. It was the roughest of the four in body condition, showed a minor warning light, needed a windscreen chip repaired, and came without service books. After purchase we completed the service and resale checks, repaired the warning light issue, fixed the windscreen and improved its presentation.
2018 Ford Transit Custom 290S SWB Van
Stock 5294, rego 1GOX351, 242,245 km, 2.0L turbo diesel, 6-speed manual, service history available.
A practical mid-size commercial van with a useful short-wheelbase layout, well suited to service and delivery businesses. The kilometres were high from business use and the load area needed cleaning, but the service history was there and the wear was normal. We completed the service, cleaned out the load area, detailed it professionally and finished the resale preparation.
2014 Citroen Berlingo 1.6 HDI Long Van
Stock 5297, rego 1ERF291, 196,001 km, 1.6L turbo diesel, 5-speed manual, service history available.
A compact, economical diesel work van with a useful long body for small business buyers. It carried some dents, needed new tyres, the rear light required replacement and the rear seat had a rip. We fitted new tyres, replaced the rear light, fitted seat and steering wheel covers and completed the detail and cosmetic work.
2019 Renault Trafic SWB Trader Life Van
Stock 5295, rego 1GWH190, 237,290 km, 1.6L turbo diesel, 6-speed manual, service history available, two keys supplied.
The newest vehicle in the group and in good overall condition, with strong resale appeal as a later-model work van. It was due for a service, needed tyres, wanted an air conditioning regas and had a dent to repair. All four were completed after purchase, along with a professional detail.
Valuation and Offer
The fleet was valued as one combined purchase rather than four separate retail transactions. That distinction matters, because it changes what is being priced.
The offer took account of kilometres, service history, condition, commercial vehicle demand, repair costs, resale potential and the convenience Westcool received by moving the whole fleet at once.
- Positive factors: diesel commercial appeal, practical work-vehicle body styles, current registration, and service history on three of the four
- Price-impacting factors: high kilometres across the group, fleet body wear, no service books on the Ranger, the Ranger warning light, tyres required on two vehicles, air conditioning work, dent repairs and detailing costs
The same-day combined offer gave Westcool a clean way to move the old fleet on without preparing, advertising and selling each vehicle individually.
Outcome for the Seller
Westcool accepted the offer the same day, because it solved the actual problem: moving the old fleet on quickly without staff spending weeks selling vehicles one at a time.
With no finance owing on any of the four, the transaction was straightforward to finalise. Payment was made by bank transfer and the whole group changed hands together.
What Happened After Purchase
Each vehicle was then prepared according to what it actually needed. The aim was to turn work-use fleet vehicles into presentable, saleable commercial stock through the required services, repairs, cleaning and cosmetic improvements.
- Services completed or reviewed as required across the fleet
- All four vehicles professionally cleaned and detailed
- Windscreen chip and crack repairs completed where needed
- Tyres replaced on the Renault Trafic and the Citroen Berlingo
- Trafic air conditioning regassed and its dent repaired
- Berlingo rear light replaced and interior covers fitted to improve presentation
- Ranger warning light issue repaired before resale
Prepared this way, the group covered a useful spread of the commercial market: a crew cab ute for tradespeople needing to carry people and tools, a mid-size van for service and delivery work, a compact economical van for small businesses, and a later-model work van for buyers wanting something newer.
Key Takeaways
The lesson in this one is about volume rather than any individual vehicle. Every one of these four would have sold privately. What Westcool could not justify was the staff time to sell four vehicles one at a time while running a business.
For businesses in the same position, the key points are:
- Selling a fleet individually multiplies the administrative work, not just the number of sales
- Fleet wear is expected in commercial resale and matters far less than it would on a private car
- Commercial buyers prioritise reliability, registration, payload and economy over cosmetics
- An onsite inspection of the whole group means one visit instead of four separate appointments
- No finance owing across a fleet makes a combined transaction very simple to settle
- A same-day business-to-business purchase frees staff to get back to actual work
If your business has vehicles to move on, whether it is one or a full fleet, we can inspect them onsite and make a single combined offer.
